Whenever you consider upgrading a kitchen it often includes appliances such as the oven, hob, microwave, sink and the other common ones that spring to mind at the time, but there’s one other that is often completely forgotten about at this important stage.
Do you ever wish that you had better tasting drinking water, or had the peace of mind that as many contaminants as possible have been dealt with? This one thing might even help to make your food and beverages taste better if you are currently using water that sometimes has a strong taste of something such as chlorine in it?
So you’ve probably guessed by now, we’re talking about installing a water filtration system.
There are lots of models and suppliers to choose from, it can often get a bit confusing.
If you’ve never considered this before, it could be well worth looking into as part of your kitchen planning. Water filter systems come in a variety types, from the simple and cost effective pitcher, to whole house systems that have multiple levels of filtration and can often be adapted to your specific needs by using add on filter units.
There are also a lot of convenient systems that fall in between these, such as faucet mount water filters, and then there are slightly more elaborate units such as the Crystal Quest under sink water filters, there are also counter top units as well.
If you don’t want to install a full on filter system, you could also consider purchasing a fridge that has a water filter unit built in, although these are often quite limited in what they can be used for. They are good for supplying chilled filtered water, and if plumbed in to your mains water, you don’t have to keep refilling like you do with a pitcher.
If you decide that you would like a whole house filter system that can deal with all your water supply points in one unit, then you are going to need quite a bit of space to install it. Possible places to consider might be an attic, the garage, or a big enough cupboard.
Although seemingly quite expensive at the beginning, these will usually give good service for many years, filter medium doesn’t need changing so regularly, but it can vary depending on the model you choose.
So just remember when next planning you kitchen, it could be worth considering a water filter system at the early stages as this can be the best time to avoid any disruption or extra costs at a later stage.
